Cw 7608 769448 2W18 Crabtree Lane 17.5.2021 After long delays Northern’s “new” flexi trains have entered passenger carrying service on the line from and to Southport from the Manchester area. The day started misty and cool but brightened up later in the day so by early evening unit 769448 was under blue skies as it has just passed the Crabtree Lane level crossing to the west of Burscough as it’s on its way back to Southport at 17.20hrs This was 15.51 hrs departure from Alderley Edge. These are electric multiple units that have been moved up from the south of the country and been reengineered with a diesel engine added to the electrical capability of the train.
