The decommissioned Type-091 nuclear submarine Long March 1 is on display at the Chinese Navy Museum in Qingdao city, east China's Shandong province, 23 April 2017. China on Monday (24 April 2017) opened on of its decommmissioned nuclear submarine to tourists in the eastern city of Qingdao. The decommissioning of the submarine, together with the safe disposal of its nuclear reactors and waste, indicates China is able to not only develop and operate nuclear submarines, but also properly handle them when they retire, said an announcement by the North Sea Fleet of the People's Liberation Army Navy. As the PLA Navy's first nuclear submarine, Type-091 was built and commissioned in the early 1970s. Xinhua News Agency reported that Type-091 submarines were produced based on technology from the 1950s and 1960s, and have short-range weapons. With a displacement of 5, 000 metric tons, the Type-091 submarine is usually equipped with six torpedo tubes.
