Weitere Informationen:
Situated on The Quay in the Devon town of Dartmouth the Royal Castle Hotel dates from 1639, possibly on the site of an older inn as Sir Francis Drake is reputed to have stayed there. Other prominent guests at this earlier hotel include assorted mistresses of King Charles II and William and Mary who stayed there prior to claiming the English throne. Later guests include Kind Edward VII and Cary Grant. Agatha Christie also stayed there and set her novel Ordeal by Innocence there although she changed the name to the Royal George. The hotel is haunted, among others, by a ghostly carriage which pulls up at the front at 02.00am (the time Mary arrived) door to collect ghostly passengers! The timber beams downstairs are supposed to have been salvaged from a Spanish ship wrecked in the Armada. The hotel is a Grade 2 listed building.
