Dan Plane arrived in the country, penniless and unable to speak English, via the maternity ward of Whipps Cross hospital, Waltham Forest, and has been London based ever since. After repeatedly falling in and out of love with science across his education, Dan realised the importance of inspiring and engaging science education for young people. So, after gaining experience working in primary schools, particularly with children with additional learning needs, he cut his science communication teeth at the Science Museum in London and now fulfills multiple roles at the Royal Institution. Through these organisations, he hopes to inspire children to follow science paths, families to try science demos at home, teachers to engage their pupils with exciting demos and investigations, and help adults enjoy science as entertainment. Dan presents a variety of talks, live demonstrations, science shows, story-tellings, and workshops. All of these can be to audiences of all ages and backgrounds. It might be taking 4 year olds to the spacestation, demonstrating Newton's laws to teenagers, spooking families, or even blowing bubbles for adults. And he's presented to these audiences in all kinds of environments, museum galleries, outdoor festivals, small rooms and theatres. Dan was content consultant for the third series of ExpeRimental, the Royal Institution's series encouraging adults to do science activities with their children. After researching and developing the activities, Dan wrote the scripts and filming schedules, organised participants, and directed and produced these videos. Check them out below, and try them for your self. Dan worked in the Explainer team of the Science Museum in London for ten years, mostly in the free interactive gallery; Launchpad. He delivered de Dan's freelance work includes writing, building, and producing his own science demos and shows for children and families, training others in uses of humour, science communication, and presentation in general.
