City Hall, London, UK. 13th February, 2016. Author & commentator Will Self and comedian & activist Mark Thomas together with about 60 supporters helped organise a series of activities that challenged the transfer of public space into private hands around London. Meeting at Potters Fields, the demonstration went on to hold speeches in The Scoop, an amphitheatre next to City Hall, debunking the need for Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs) that the activists believe allow for broad powers to criminalise behaviour that is not normally deemed criminal such as photography, skateboarding and the gathering of groups of people. Many protesters held aloft placards denouncing the building of the proposed Garden Bridge across the Thames. After the speeches were made the activists then went on to participate in a mass trespass by organising a short group tour around the immediate area of City Hall.
