C15th (1447) monument of Sir John Cockayne (Cokayne) & his wife Jane Dabridgecourt in Ashbourne Church, Derbyshire, England, UK. Stiff, full length recumbent effigies of local alabaster on a chest tomb (altar tomb). Sir John the younger is the son of Edmund & the grandson of Sir John the elder. He wears full plate armour with a livery Collar of Esses (an S.S. collar) denoting his allegiance to the Lancastrian cause. He sports a moustache & wears a basinet helmet with a gorget plate protecting his throat. Hands in gauntlets held together in prayer, besagews at the shoulder joints. His wife wears clothes of the early C15th including a mantle held with a cord & tassels, & a twin-pointed (twin horned) head-dress covering her hair. Along with other family monuments they lie in the Boothby Chapel in the north transept: Sir John the elder & Edmund Cockayne are beside them.
