Bundesarchiv-Lichterfelde, German Federal Archives. Building housing historic archival documents in Finckensteinallee 63, Berlin. Building history: Constructed 1873 to 1878 as the Prussian Main Cadet Institute. 1, 000 cadets were housed in complex and the first electric tram in Berlin connected the entrance of the site with the new railway station at Gross Lichterfelde-Ost. After the Treaty of Versailles, the buildings were used as a school until April 1933 when Adolf Hitler took possession of the barracks and constructed the buildings facing the main entrance in Finckensteinallee. In July 1945, American soldiers occupied the property and renamed it "Andrews Barracks". The buildings were mostly destroyed during the war and the Americans built the crew quarters that have housed the Federal Archives since 1995.
