The reputation of Chinese universities around the world continues to improve with a number of the country's most prestigious institutions moving up once again in this year's QS World University rankings. Last year, the rankings, published annually by the London-based higher education information specialist Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), surprised many with two top Chinese universities -- Tsinghua and Peking -- taking a dramatic leap upwards, generating some skepticism about the group's methodology. But this year was more of the same with Tsinghua University holding steady at #25 in the world, ahead of schools like UC Berkeley, Northwestern and the University of Tokyo, while Peking University moved up just a bit to #38. Also joining those two elite institutions in Beijing in the top 50 was Shanghai's Fudan University which was ranked at #40. Shanghai Jiaotong University, Zhejiang University in Nanjing and the University of Science and Technology of China in Hefei also made the top 100, along with five universities from Hong Kong, in addition to one in Taipei.
