Mao Dun, born on July 4, 1896, spent his childhood in Wuzhen town of Tongxiang County, east China s Zhejiang Province. Beginning his literary work in 1916, Mao Dun wrote a great number of novels, essays and poems. His masterpieces such as Midnight , Spring Silkworms and Store of Lin Family , which vividly recorded social life in old China, are not only well-known in China, but have also been translated into more than 20 foreign languages. Mao Dun settled down in Beijing in 1949. He moved to a quadrangle in 1974 and spent his last 6 years there. Now, a lot of Mao s manuscripts, documents and books as well as some articles donated by his relatives were displayed in his former residence.
