It was established in 1929 as guest house and conference venue of the Kaiser Wilhelm Society in Berlin-Dahlem, to promote German Science and became an international scientific club. It hosted prominent scientists, artists, politicians and industrialists and many notable German scientists resided or worked there, including Nobel prize winners Fritz Haber, Otto Hahn and Albert Einstein. After WW2, it was in Soviet hands for a short period and thereafter was used as a US army officers’ mess and for cultural & diplomatic events. It was returned to the Max Planck Society in 1994 and since 2000 is the conference venue of the Max Planck Society
