Group B regulations were introduced by the FIA in 1982, referring to vehicles that were modified GT cars and critically "touring Prototypes". Because homologation requirements were quite low, manufacturers only had to build a production run of 200 vehicles in order to comply. This meant that budgetary and therefore technical restrictions were virtually non-existant. As a result, whilst some manufacturers began the Group B era with pragmatic "stop gap" solutions, a technological arms race ensued which eventually resulted in a Group B consuming itself. But it was a hell of a ride!
