The Palazzo dell'Arengario was built in Milan downtown (Italy) between 1936 and 1956 to a design by architect Piero Portaluppi (1888-1967) with the collaboration of Muzio, Magistretti and Griffini. The building consists of two symmetrical bodies with large balconies and arches; the facades are covered with Candoglia marble, the same used to build the Duomo, and are decorated with bas-reliefs by Arturo Martini (1889-1947). In a broad sense the name "arengario" indicates a typical building, widespread in northern Italy, from whose balcony the political figures harangued the people. Since 2009 the left body, restructured and refurbished, houses the Museum of the Twentieth Century (designed by Italo Rota and Fabio Fornasari) which exhibits works of contemporary art. The Terrazze Martini are a meeting point for the protagonists of the world of entertainment, culture and politics. The idea was born in 1948 but hey spread between in the Fifties and Sixties in various cities and represent the emblem of the communication style of Martini & Rossi, a company producing liquors and renowned for the lifestyle of lovers of aperitifs and a certain type of social culture. The most famous of them is the Terrazza Martini in Milan, designed by architect Tommaso Buzzi, located on the 15th floor of the Piazza Diaz skyscraper in Milan downtown, Italy, near the Duomo. It dominates the historical centre of the city and offers an extraordinary view of the Duomo spires. It is one of the Milanese symbols of the economic boom season and is also a piece of the history of Italian lifestyle. Over time it has seen the most prominent figures in cultural, social, sporting or political news.
