The Good Friday Walk of Witness that normally sees 500 or more people in procession up Cam Peak, Gloucestershire has been cancelled for a second year due to covid restrictions. However the two families rule has allowed the Irvine family from Cam and the Spears family from Dursley to carry the 12ft cross to the top of the Peak. Husband and wife Andy and Bobbie Spears joined Rod and Emma Irvine and their son Isaac (13) as well as Emma's brother Simon Grove who is part of the Irvine family bubble who gave some much needed help with the heavy lifting on the ascent of the local high point. The annual walk is organised by the Churches Together Cam, Dursley and District and brings together members of Christian Churches from different denominations. Revd. Simon Helme from Dursley Tabernacle and Quarry Chapel said "This Easter weekend people are eager to get out and are hungry for social interaction and for something to celebrate – and Easter gives them that opportunity. Sadly there isnt a procession of the cross but it will be up on the Cam Peak for the whole weekend so people can make their own pilgrimage. This pandemic is an event that has prompted many to ask the big questions, I hope the cross will help in that reflection." The two families were accompanied on the climb by the Irvine's family dog Saffie while they carried the sizeable cross. At the summit the cross was fixed in place, the two families then gathered around to sing 'When I Survey the Wonderous Cross' Mum Emma Irvine said "I feel privileged to be able to take part today, we miss the town not being able to be with us but they'll be able to see the cross as a symbol of hope" For more information ring Revd.
