Crab spider &/or Goldenrod Crab Spider (Misumena species) -- a 1/4 inch long, pure white spider, with eight legs and eight black eyes, eating a bee it killed by grabbing its neck. To the spider, the pink flower [Nootka Rose (Rosa nutkana)], and the bee, it is all part of the daily ritual of food gathering and pollination. The bee needs the honey, the flower needs the bee for pollination, and the spider needs food to live, too. A normal day, but this time this bee won't return to the hive. References say some individuals in this Crab Spider species have pink markings on the white, but they are still called a Crab spider (Misumena species). Photo taken in a natural area near Portland, Oregon, USA, North America. Spider -- Arachnids; Insect -- Hymenoptera. Flower -- Rosaceae. ---- Vacation and travel in North America and experience the wonder, excitement, and thrill of its great scenic wild areas, wilderness, wildlife, scenery, and panoramas and ALL the great outdoors.
