Mar. 27, 2012 - Sculptor Mitzi Cunliffe soon take off her Car Muffs.: For over a year 52 year-old American born sculptor Mitzi Cunliffs has been working with a power hammer knocking away four tons of Portland stone. The completed works which will consist of four ~ft. Square Scottish motifs weighing one ton each are due to be erected in March outside the Scottish Life House, Poultry, London, the new building of the Scottish Life Assurance Company. Mitzi who works in the studio of her mews flat in Brighton finds working with o hammer a noisy business and wears ear muffs. When the job is finished she is looking forward to relaxing at home with her husband and children. She has devoted all her sculptoral life to wedding sculpture and architecture. Her commissioned sculptures have been installed on large building throughout England and she has also executed design models for American firms Her one-man sculptor exhibitions have been held in London, New York and museums in America while her sculptures have been included in 150 group exhibitions in the U.S.A. She has designed textiles, tiles and pottery for mass. production and jewellery for the First International Jewellery Exhibition. She also writes in architecture and design and lectures on American art, Mitzi Cunliffee was born in New York City and is a D.Se., and V.E. She married Marcus Cunliffe in 1949 and lived in Manchester until she moved in 1964 to Brighton where her husband is Professor at the University of Sussex. The has two daughters and a son. Mitei is feeling very pleased with this commission for it is the only one up to now that has found such a prominent position.
